I've always thought the microwave was the biggest waste of space in the trailer. I use it to store cook books and crackers! The only thing I've ever used it for was to heat up nachos a few times. Total waste to me! I'd like to replace it with a convection oven. The Cuisinart convection oven measures 18 1/2" x 17" x 10" deep. It looks as if the 18 1/2 " would be no problem, but I've never had the need to remove the microwave so I could measure the resultant opening. Anyone know the opening size after removing the microwave? Would there be any problem putting one in that opening?

hello;
I don't know the air flow requirements of what you are planning to install,
(Cuisinart convection oven) but I wouldn't want to be causing a fire from adding something that requires more ventilation space around it-.than what the MW has---also what current differences---I don't Know the wattage of the MW Installed or the wire Guage the Factory installed.things I would check out before I did a mod like this..My 2 Cents
I love my MW. I sometimes take my Black & Decker Pizza oven w/ convection setting with me.But I only have a Patriot Deluxe---I don't live in mine.

Chris, on the other forum under Appliances there are a few threads about what folks use instead of the microwave. Various convection ovens, etc., are discussed so I know it can be done but I don't use anything like that, I like the storage space, so I can't really do more than suggest you check out the other forum for ideas.

as well as i remember my microwave space is only 17.5" wide but i have a patriot so, it may be smaller. i recently replaced my old toaster oven with a black&decker convection oven which i really wouldn't recommend. with this replacement i covered the walls of the inside with that foam underlayment stuff with the silver backing available from lowes/home depot.

Specifically to what "other forum" were you referring?

I would guess he's referring to the CasitaForum. There are six other molded fiberglass trailer forums in addition to CasitaClub, each has something to offer. Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to modifications.

I'm aware of the multiple forums..........that's why I asked "which one". :lol: So I tried the Casita Forum and found the thread mentioned. Thanks.

Thanks, Donna. Yes, I did mean the Casita forum. I seldom visit the other fiberglass ones but frequent these 2.

I asked my question on the "other" forum and got no answer. So I contacted "the factory" and they said after removing the microwave from a 2006 SD, the opening would be 13 1/4" H x 20 3/4" W. The interior space is 15 1/2" H x 25" W x 17 3/4" deep. I'm buying a Breville Smart Oven tomorrow! Then I'm grabbing my drill to drill out the pop rivets. Anyone want to buy a seldom used microwave oven? :lol2:

i agree with u..

Edward,

Sparky1 is always willing to jump in and help when someone asks for it............and I've been on too many forums where people sometimes don't even bother! I was just concerned his response would take the thread in a direction that wasn't going to be helpful to getting the specific answer I needed. Forums are like that sometimes. After seeing your comment, I wonder if he took offense at my response...........which was not meant in a negative way. If he did, I apologize.
