Just found out from the Kumho 857 that so many seem to use is bigger in diameter by almost a full inch than the stock 14 in 205/75-14 tire. It is even bigger than a 215/75-14. Can they only be used on high lift axle? stock 205/75-14 diameter 26.1
215/75-14 " 26.7
Kumho 205 QR14 " 27.

Got this info. straight from the Kumho Headquarters via e-mail from Product dept.
They said this is the only 14 inch LOAD D tire they make.

They're not too big. Get 'em ordered and installed. They made a world of difference in how my 17'SD towed/handled.

As posted elsewhere , Continental makes the Vanco™ 8 in a 195/R14 D Load Range. Datasheet says its diameter is 26.2". Or how about a 185/R14 D with a diameter of 25.6"?

Hi Bebo,
The 857's work fine on my high axle 17 SD and I just put 8000 miles on them since June first.
Happy motoring and enjoy your Casita.

First, the 205R14 is about 1/2" larger overall, and fits perfectly in even the standard axled Casita (assuming they mounted the axle in the center of the wheel well). It is slightly taller because it has an aspect ratio (height-to-width) of 82 per cent rather than 75 per cent.

If you want a tire the exact same size (height) as your 205/75-14 Marathon, you can fit the Kumho 857 in size 195R14 and STILL have the 99mph speed rating and over 200 pounds more weight capacity than the Goodyears offer, without the apparent weakness of that tire. I just see no compelling reason to do it, except if as now the 205 size is out of stock.

They ALSO make the 857 in size 185R14!

If they told you they only make the Load D 857 in one size, they are mis-informed. They make it in at least a DOZEN sizes for World-wide use on heavy duty commercial vehicles (busses and delivery trucks), but it's only available from www.TireRack.com in the 3 sized I quoted above, and they sell them as trailer tires here in the US.

Over 15,000mi on mine so far and doing fine.

I only asked Khumo about the 205 D LOAD size, and they said the 857 was the only one they made.
I never thought about going to the 195 size so thanks for that information. At least I now have some options.
