Hi All -

I am looking for a used 16' Casita and I know there are 3 models
to chose from.

Since you all are veteran Casita owners, I wondered if you could
throw out your .02 on each model, and a short pro/con review.

I am really curious how you chose your trailer!

Thanks,
Katie

P.S. If anyone knows of a used trailer in the Northwest, feel free to
contact me... smile.gif

P.P.S. I will be using this trailer for myself and my young daughter,
and we hope to travel to Mexico in the winter.

Kathleen,

I choose to buy a new 06 because the price difference between a new and used one was not that great. Also, I brought the 16ft because it was perfect for my young daughter and I. Double bed for me, single bed for her. I brought the trailer because of safety concerns while camping with a young child. Felt it was safer in a trailer then a tent.

The only regret I have the Casita is when I am not using it.

Thanks Kevin -

I feel the same way about trailers and camping with young
children. I really like the safety of a trailer, and I love the
Casita!

Did you get the Spirit?

Enjoy your adventures with your daughter, she is lucky to have
a dad that likes to camp and have fun!

Hi Katie,

We chose the Freedom model. We did not like the idea of the straight bench type seats in the Spirit. Others with Spirit models like the extra storage they offer under the benches, but we do not need it.

I have never seen a Liberty, but it offers a king sized bed when all the cushions are in place.

We have a 16' trailer instead of a 17' because our tow vehicle would not accomodate the extra weight, but after seeing many 17' Freedom and Spirit models, we feel like we have more room. The isle is wider and there seems to be more floor space.

Some of the things a 16' does not have that a 17' does: Large refridgerator w/ freezer, screen door, taller interior, rear window that opens, large storage space under the sink...these are not deal breakers unless they are important to you.

We love our 16' FD and look forward to every time we can go camping!

Hi Katie,

We had the Freedom model and it worked really well for the two of us. However, if it is going to be you and your daughter, you will probably want the Spirit Deluxe so you have two beds, or the Liberty Deluxe modified into twin beds.

Where in Mexico are you planning on going?

Katie,

I have the 16ft Sprit Deluxe.
If I could offer you a suggestion, I wrote on an index card a check list for daughter things she needs to do when we set up and break down. Nothing difficult just something to make feel she is part of the team. I also have a check list Diane I believe on this forum posted. Very helpful. Also, do you know about the Casitaforum.com site they have a handy ck list for buying a trailer.

Enjoy your travels

We had a coleman pop-up, or as more commonly known as Bear Bait. Wanted a better RV, but not a monster stick built. Just wife and I. We purchased, new, a 17LD. We converted the king bed to the twin bed set up. It fits our needs, as we are entertainers, and need the extra room for costumes.

We bought a 2006 16' Spirit Deluxe and are very happy with the decision. Although the fridge is smaller than the 17', it is bigger than our large cooler we used for tent camping (plenty big for two people). Also, the fridge in the 16' has the advantage of operating on 12 volt which is nice while towing. We found the bench seats to be more comforatable then the captain chairs (the captain chairs felt like the were leanng forward).

WE bought a used 16 Spirit Deluxe at about half the price of a new one and love it. I like the idea of being able to have one bigger bed and the small bed. I would think that would be perfect for you and your daughter as your daughter would have her own bed and could sleep in whatever one she feels most comfortable in. Plus, as she gets older, she may want a bit more privacy and you could curtain off the bigger bed for her. Have a wonderful time.

Forgot to mention that we had not planned on any particular model but the Spirit was advertised here in the classified section and we immediately went to see it and bought it. They go fast so just get whatever model you can get at good price and good condition and work with that. Any of them will work for you.
