Maybe it's just me but for the last few weeks (or more) my back button has not worked consistently.  I use Firefox.   It is most tiresome when I've used Search and try to look through the list of results.  After checking out a thread, the back button will not take me back to the list of results.  Each time I have to reenter my search info and start over, and over, and over.

Other times, when just looking at the forum posts, one click may take me back to the previous page or it may take 3 or more tries to get back.  Seems to be no rhyme or reason for this.  It only happens on CC.

I use Firefox, too. Sometimes I've found that one has to 'refresh' it or download or install a newer version. You might want to go to their homepage (I don't use if for homepage) and find out how to download a newer version.

Mind you I am NOT a geek. This is about the extent of my IT abilities. So I may be wrong. Sorry.

Thanks.  It's worth a try although this doesn't happen on any other website I visit.

Carol, you might also want to try to 'clear the cache'. DOn't think I know what I'm talking about, though...I'm no geek.

I routinely clear it and get rid of cookies, history, etc. Firefox has this neato 'widget' called 'forget'.

See that three horizontal stripe icon in the upper right hand corner?

CLick on it.

A window will open with a bunch of icons. At the top it says Cut, Copy, Paste.

At the bottom left hand corner is a plus sign with the word Customize.

Click on that.

You will get a page that says

Additional Tools and Features

In there is a icon that says "Forget".

Click and drag that to the box on the right.

Click on the bottom left green box that says "Exit Customize".

Now click on the three horizontal menu icon again.

"FOrget" should be there.

Click on it.

It should open and give you the option of forgetting history, cookies, etc, for the last five minutes, two hours, 24 hours. I usually click on the 24 hours.

It tells you what will be deleted and you will get a 'new page will open". That box will say 'thanks!"

That should help clearing the cache.

You can also go to the upper left hand side toolbar and click on History. It will give you the option of clearing recent history..today, yesterday, etc.

IF it makes you feel any better, my Firefox and Casita Club aren't playing so nicely together, either. For instance, I can no longer add the attached JPG into the post where I want it placed: it insists on being at the bottom of the post now.

I think I read the Eric is being forced into changing the entire website due to the server (host???) retooling everything.

So that may be what's causing yours and my problems.

If not, I don't think I can help you any further. Like you, I'm a biologist, not a geek. We are at their mercy.  The geeks...being the meeks...have technologically inherited the earth.

Thanks for the advice; I appreciate the effort.  Jack says our Firefox is the latest update and my settings "clear the cache" every night when I shut down.

If nobody else is having this problem, I'll just have to learn to live with it.

PS: Strangely, it seems worse right now.  I posted this msg then used the back button to go to the forum - I must have clicked it 20-30 times and nothing happened.  Weird.  It might be my computer but I'll ask Eric if he can help.  Could be he's made some changes recently.

An alternative - right click on back button, then select exactly where you want to go.

Thanks, Bruce.  I've never used the back button that way but it does give me the option of returning to my search list.  So simple a fix.  It will save me much frustration.

Hi Carol,

I have tried to duplicate the issue on my end (I use Firefox as well) and cannot get it to happen.  I have not changed anything on the forum side, so nothing has changed.

Is it all threads, or only threads after a search?  I did some searches and was able to click on individual results, then click back to the full results, with no issues.  I tried every year back to 2010.

Would you please supply me with some links where it is happening?

Also, in the meantime, try right-clicking and opening in a new tab.  You won't lose your main search page.

Please let me know!

Eric  B)

Thanks Eric.

I'll be away for a week or so, leaving early tomorrow morning for the Bullards Beach Oregon Gathering.

The problem happens on more than searches but not on all threads, so I'll have to play with it when I get home to pin it down for you.  Opening in a new tab is a good idea, I should have thought of that.

Later,

Carol

Have a good time and let me know what happens when you get back.  I'll keep investigating the issue.

Thanks!

I sent Eric a PM with a detailed explanation but I thought I should post what seems to be the problem here too

When right clicking the Back Button to see the drop-down, it should show 1 line for where you are now, with previous history listed below.

Well, my BB works that way at first, so if I right click the BB immediately, the drop-down has only 1 line for the thread I am on.  But as time goes by, it adds more and more lines for the page I am currently on, until the drop down shows nothing else.  Right now, when I right click the BB, it shows 15 lines that say: "Back Button Problem - The Casita Club Forum - Casita Club Forums".

The result is that if I am on a thread for a short period, I can use the BB (maybe 1 - 3 clicks to take me back).  But the more time I spend on a thread, the more clicks it takes to move back, until finally it becomes impossible.

I've cleared my cookies; tested CC on both my and Jack's PC's (same result); and checked out another site (no problem there).  So the problem could be just our PC's or perhaps a glitch on CC that doesn't like something about our PC's.

PS:  I tried the BB this morning before logging in and had the same problem. :(

I normally use chrome & don't have this problem.  Switched to Firefox & guess what - same problem as you have. If it will help Eric, I am using a desktop running Windows 10; Firefox version 54.0.1 update 7-14-2017

Thanks for testing, I appreciate it and it should help Eric.

We both have desktops and use Firefox version 54.0.1.  Jack uses Windows 10 and I use Windows 7 - same problem on both.

I've PM'd Eric and he uses Firefox and tested without having the problem.  But that was before I realized the problem was related to time spent on a thread.

I don't seem to be having this problem, either. I'm not sure which version of Firefox I'm using..it updates automatically, so I'm assuming it is up to date. Also I'm using Windows 7.
