Hello Casita World,

Since we bought our Matilda about 3 years ago I've had the luxury of parking her in my warehouse that I run a business out but growth has caused that to change and I have to get her a new home. I'm 99% sure I am going to buy a prefabed enclosed metal building to keep her in. I've already had to move her or I would measure this myself but what height do I need to be sure I have for a 2004 17' SD with 15" wheels. I only have 14" wheels now but as soon as its time to replace axle that will be done as well so prepare now I say.

WE just built a metal garage and designed the entry/exit doors to be roll-up doors that would accept our 2016 Casita 17' Independence. Our roll-up doors are 10' x 10'. There is ample clearance for the Casita. The problem with going with smaller doors occurs as you enter the building. Unless the driveway entrance is the same level as the garage floor...the Casita may be arched upward due to the entrance ramp or stepped entrance. Hope this helps you.

My 2008 17 SD clears my double wide carport which has a 9 ft. vertical clearance at the front horizontal structural framing. I have 15" tires/wheels, high lift axle, and roof mounted Polar Cub A/C unit. Clears it with a few inches to spare.

I have a high lift axle and 225's on 15" wheels.  I'm currently under a 12' wide carport with 8' legs and plenty of room to spare.  I might even get by with 7' high legs, but I'd have to measure it this weekend when I get over to my folks place where I keep it.

Greg, what is that black object in the front of your Casita? Is that a window?

I was told by Casita when I bought my 2013 17' SD that I would need 9' clearance which has served me well in my travels.

Steamboat, I'm not speaking for Euphoria, of course, but I believe I remember his post saying that he'd added a window to the front. Also note that he put a window...the same type as in the bathroom..on the side, underneath the range top exhaust fan vent. Looks nice, doesn't it! I'd like to do that ...the side window...on ours.

Not to hijack this thread, but yes, it is a window. It was one of the very first "mods" I did when I bought my trailer back in 2008. The one thing that bothered me was not being able to see anything going on in the front end area of the trailer without having to go outside. Now I can just look out the front window from the bathroom. (It's also tinted, so it's all but impossible to see in from the outside.) I also rewired the front convenience light over the propane tanks to have three-way switching, along with another switch I installed inside the trailer above the front closet door. I can turn it on or off from either out front or from inside to light up the front end. The black pipe you see in the 3rd pic down, (looking out the front window,) is just my VuCube antenna mast.

 

I also threw in a pic of the new galley window taken from inside. It really brightens up that dark corner by the sink. It also opens for screened ventilation, and the screen also slides open. Good for passing beers through.

Here's mine with 8' tall legs, which means the ceiling is over 10'.

Yes. but it is only so at the center peak. Not all carports are built in that manner however. Mine, (and many others,) have a triangular frontal facade with a horizontal cross brace (truss) at the height of the side corners running straight across. Telling people that your trailer fits in a carport with 8' legs can be a bit misleading as not all share your type of construction. The clear opening height for many metal framed structures differ. Whatever style or design you choose, you need to assure that you have a minimum of 9' vertical clearance to not hit anything.

We aren't allowed to build carports where I live so I use the Calmark cover.
