Welcome to the October 2016 Installment of our Casita Club Monthly Photography Contest!

This month's subject is:

"Fall or Fall Colors"

The images posted must include something that reflects the fall.  This can be fall colors, or things related to fall (like pumpkins, maize corn, etc)  If you can include your Casita, that would be great, but it is not necessary.  You may post until November 15, 2016.

Please read the rules and requests below, then post up your image in this thread!

The winner of this month's contest will receive a $25.00 gift card to Amazon and your choice of one short-sleeve T-Shirt from The Casita Store.

Feel free to post comments in this thread as well!

Here is a video tutorial on how to upload an image to your post:

----------

The rules are quite simple and may change depending on the month and subject.

General Rules:

1)  Any photographs submitted must be owned by the member submitting the image and only one image per contest can be submitted per member.  HDR images are allowed.

2)  Images should be a minimum of 650 pixels on the longest side, if possible.

3)  The winning image may be re-posted on the front page, after the approval from the owner of the image.

4)  Submissions to the Monthly Photography Contest may begin after the monthly topic has been posted, until the end of the month.  Submissions must be either uploaded to The Casita Club Forums, or embedded from an outside website by the owner of the image.  No outside text links to images will be allowed.

5)  All submissions will be listed and voted on by The Casita Club membership at the end of the month.

6)  The winner of the monthly contest will receive a prize to be determined by The Casita Club and listed within the monthly topic thread.

7)  In order to give more people a chance at winning, individual members can only win once every 3 months.

8)  The winning images will be included in a **once-a-year prize**, to be determined by The Casita Club and listed within the separate quarterly voting thread. (this was changed on 10/01/2014)

9)  The Casita Club, or anyone associated with the owners of the CasitaClub.com website do not and will not claim any type of ownership or license of any images or photographs submitted to The Casita Club Forums.  Eric Mayer will be able to submit an image, but that image will not be included in the monthly votes.

Contest Requests:

I would love for folks to learn from the photographs posted here.  So, as much information as can be provided would be appreciated.  This includes some background information about the photograph, your camera, lens and settings, as well as any other information you feel would be beneficial.

Good luck to anyone who enters!  Feel free to ask any questions in this thread:  http://www.casitaclu...-photo-contest/

Jim, nice reflections and soft colors, well done for a cloudy early morning.

Wonderful Jon!!! I figured you bring something super to the thread. Hard to beat the fall colors in the northeast!

FINAL RESTING PLACE

While Fall typically says autumn leaves in full color, I took a different view.....a Fall Chinook in his final resting place after a lifetime of trying to outwit numerous predators in the rivers, streams and on the high seas just to survive.

Young Cooper's Hawk, on the Alert.

This young hawk used to hunt in my yard with a sibling, now she is alone.  Food begins to become scarce in the Fall and she is hoping for an early morning meal.

She's a beauty, Carol, NICE capture. You're correct about her age. She's what we call a "HY" or "Hatch Year", meaning she was born this year. You can easily age a Cooper's (as well as the other accipiters, Sharp shinneds and Goshawks)  by their eyes. The juvies have yellow eyes. The eyes slowly change color until it reaches maturity, when the eyes are blood red. They also get the reddish brown horizontal barring on the breast at maturity.

Yes, good information.  She (I think a female because of her size, pretty large) is a first year.  When I last saw the two siblings together, they had cornered a duck but it got away.  This one is very aggressive and harrasses the ducks all the time, although I don't think she has had any success with them.  Because I feed the birds, the hawks get food too. She also bathes in our bird bath.

Oh, what fun..a Coop in your bird bath. We have a pair...again, siblings like yours. They are super aggressive, very alert, and always willing to take on...anything. A few weeks ago (well, late September) they were walking around, peering into my unkempt and dying off flower beds. Anyone who sees them walking will realize that velociraptors still exist and they're in your backyard!

We feed the birds, too, and if the hawks come looking for the peeps, so be it.

I took this picture at Powell Gardens, east of Lee's Summit, MO, just north of US50. (east of Kansas City).  The building is a chapel, one of my favorite fall pictures.  I use a Canon Digital Rebel set on automatic with a 49mm lens.
