absolutely gorgeous pics! thanks so much for sharing. one of my favorite activities since retirement/casita purchase, is using binoculars in a quiet locale to watch birds. such incredibly beautiful and entertaining creatures!

Pelicans.........they look so primeval. I can really see dinosaurs on the wing when I see a pelican. They're so ungainly when on the water...and yet when they fly (actually, they're soaring on the updraft from the surf) they are oh so very beautiful.

Leehman

Your last set of photos reminded me of a story a Casita owner shared a couple of years ago while camping in Florida.

Best I remember he was camping in a park in a cold time of year. The park had an abundant number of iguanas, some were rather larges. In the middle of the night he heard/felt something very large hit the roof of his Casita. Apparently the cold blooded iguanas in the trees got cold enough that they were falling out of the trees. So instead of raining cats and dogs it was raining iguanas!

Have you seen any non-native snakes? (Boa Constrictors)

We enjoy your photos.  Thanks for sharing

Spotted one in the Everglades crawled out on the road to warm up hit by a car. Even dead they are intimating.

I might be wrong, but the giant snakes (invasives) in the Everglades are Burmese pythons. Either way, they're invasive and they've destroyed the small mammal population and are now going for full grown deer, domesticated animals such as goats...and pets.

Oh, and the iguanas are non-native, too. There are no iguanas or monitor lizards native to North America.

Leehman, that owl is a barred owl. NICE catch, especially in daylight!

you're correct, meadowlark, they are burmese pythons and are quickly destroying the everglades. they have had "python" hunts in there with cash rewards for anyone bringing one in. if i make it there this winter and find a dead one on the road, i'm wondering if they'd share that cash reward for "road kill" ? might help pay the camping fees there, LOL............................

An 18'-3" Python was caught in 2015, and a 16'-10" one was caught this year.

If I knew how to do it,  I'd make snakeskin cowboy boots out of all the pythons..
