My goodness, Goose Egg, you are a glutton for punishment. You have a calico AND a tortie?? wow. They can be as tempramental as chestnut mares!

But they are so very lovely, as yours demonstrate

You are sooo right.   The problem is, I didn't pick them.  They're both strays that just showed up here and I couldn't help myself.

BTW,  The White one's 3 and the Black one is going to be 16 next month.   Just in case any of you are wondering, they don't mellow with age.

Both still meow or growl every time I pick them up.

Yup. Sounds like tortie/calico.

well, it may be they were traumatized by being strays. No matter...you did a wonderful thing by giving them a nice (mobile) home and they are lovely. I always had a soft spot for the tricoloreds. Did you know that calicos/tortieseshell cats are always female? In feline genenomic development,  a 'lethal' gene that causes the tortie/calico color but only kills the males in the embryonic stage. Although, as she will, Nature sometimes throws a curveball..a few years ago the 'net had a picture of a male tortie.

Thanks Meadowlark,   I knew calicos were almost always female but I didn't know why.

BTW,  That is a beautiful Siamese.

Thank you. Although, when she's in Full Siamese Mode, there are times I wonder about my sanity in choosing them. Our tabby, DIamond, is normal. She does NOT like going on walks, but she is, too, a good camper.

As for feline genetics, they're a fascination. I learned just recently that 'ginger' cats...the orange ones, like Morris, are usually male. I believe the study said that 75% of orange cats are male. And they have the complete opposite temper than the tortie females. They're usually the I Love Everybody type of cat.If they were human, they'd be the guy with his hat on backwards, a beer in his hand and a hearty, come on down we're grilling steaks and watching the game...kind of guy. A friend of mine has one (named Cheetoh!) who roughhouses with their Labs...and we all know how Labs can party..

I have a gray male tabby that is the sweetest cat I have ever owned.   The vet told me male cats are almost always the most loving cats to own.   He has 7.

Skye and Maya waiting for breakfast.  "Food, food!   You know we don't have opposable thumbs."

This was taken on Vancouver Island the morning after a very big storm went through.  We had been driving to the west coast of the island and the wind and rain was unimaginable, so we headed back to the more protected east side on the Strait of Georgia.  By then it was late, so we stopped here instead of setting up in the wind, rain and mud.

This was Maya's first camping trip; Skye's the one wearing her harness - Maya had already chewed her brand new harness to pieces.

Sorry, Carol, but I don't believe you. LOOK at that face. Does Maya look like a destructive dog? Not with those bambi eyes.

Nope. I think YOU tore the harness to pieces and are blaming the dog.

Jack Russells are a treat, aren't they? I don't think they realize they are 'small' dogs.  A friend of mine owns a feed store and has a wire haired JR. One day a guy showed up with a full grown Rottweiler in the back of his pickup truck.  That was fine with the JR until said Rotty decided to jump out of the bed to go water some trees.

The JR took after him like a starving wolf on a lame deer. He was all over the Rott who started screaming because he was getting mauled and hadn't the faintest idea who, what or where the fanged tornado was. He jumped back up into the truck with a dozen bleeding cuts on his legs. The JR trotted off, I swear to god he was brushing his 'hands' off as if to say, there, got rid of THAT guy..

Here are my travel-buds. Mags, the Boston, is 12. She is also nearly blind and almost completely deaf. Her favorite thing in the world is to make a blanket-nest for herself in OTRA and take a nice long nap. Jack will be six in June. Anyone who has met him can attest to his gentleness and intelligence. These are the best of companions. They laugh at all my silly jokes, even the ones they've heard a million times. Jack, however, is not as smart as he thinks he is. I can still beat him 3 out of 5 games of tic-tac-toe.

And one more... Jack has learned how to slide the door-hatch open. I'll close the door and walk away and hear the 'swiiish' of the hatch opening and there he will be, taking it all in. So far he hasn't tumbled to the next step: pressing down on the door release. I'm not too worried about that since he has been taught not to go thru a door until he is told he can. But you never know...
