No, we haven't given up on them.  I was going to make a post about what's going on in detail, but this is a good place to put it.  My wife's father is dying of cancer, and it has taken a turn for the worst.  She is in NE Texas right now, with him at a nursing home facility, trying to give support and care for his needs.  Because of this, I've been handling our regular business, as well as caring for our developmentally disable aunt.  So, needless to say, other than the day-to-day work of approving new members, and helping with issues, I've been out of the loop.

Before the end of this week (Sunday), I will have the voting for the over-all winner from 2015, as well as a new contest for the rest of January, and February 2016.

In the meantime, if you are so inclined, a little prayer, or some good thoughts, for my Debbie's dad, and for her and her brother.  Unfortunately, this has been a very brutal time for her dad, and just an absolutely terrible way to go.  It is so difficult for Debbie to watch this happening to her dad, but at the same time is thankful for every minute she gets to spend with him.

This man is a veteran of the Vietnam War, and he has fought this cancer for the past year, or so.  There is a small sliver of hope, but getting to that place is going to be very, very difficult.  Thankfully, the nursing home he is in has a very kind and understanding staff, and his doctors are very active in helping him as much as they can.

I hate to dump this out there, as I normally keep things like this out of the public view, but the folks on here are different, and I don't mind giving you all an explanation of my absence.

Thanks for understanding, and the photo contest, articles, and everything else will be back to normal soon!

Eric

Oh my - now I feel terrible for asking.

Eric please look after your own first.  We appreciate all you do for us - but family is much more important.

Debbie & her father and all of the family will be in our prayers. Strength and guidance through this toughest of times in life. Wisdom to the doctors and caregivers to help with this transition. Letting this veteran know he is loved by family and many others that have never met him face to face.

May God be in the hearts of all and love outpouring to the needs this family

Everyone.  Thank you so much for all the kind words.  If anything good came from all this, is that Debbie and her brother got to spend so much time with him over the past weeks, speaking about everything that may have been missed over the years.  Our wish is for him to pass peacefully, and happy, with his children around him.  It's hard to keep a smile on your face in your regular life, but having so much weighing on you in the background.  Letting you guys know what was happening has helped a lot.  I really thank you for the kind words.  I can't explain how much it means.

Thank you.

Eric

PS:  WidgetWizard, please don't feel bad.  I should have taken the time to explain what was going on a while ago.

Thanks Meadowlark.  I'll PM you back in a couple of days.

Unfortunately, Debbie's father passed away this past Sunday morning in Debbie, and her brother's arms.  After being sick for so long, you think you will be prepared for this.  Actually, it is quite the opposite, and we are all having a very hard time with his passing.  Filling the emptiness is going to be very hard for a long while.

Thank you for all your kind words, and to all of you who have experienced this, or who may experience it in the future, my heart goes out to you.  Watching what my wife, and family, is going through is devastating, and there is nothing that can be done to ease their pain except time.  Although it makes it much harder, I am so thankful that Debbie and her brother were able to spend the time with them that they did.

Thanks again from all of us.

Sincerely,

Eric
