Help! I found a couple of awesome closet mods several months back and now I can't find the thread. Can you share your closet modifications or talk about what you have seen that looked awesome? We are going to add shelves but were trying to decide which way would give us the most flexibility and not require drilling holes. Can we even drill holes that in the closet? I'm a total woman when it comes to building things, so I need all the help I can get. haha

Any help would be much appreciated!  :D

Go to www.CasitaForum.com, under "Interior" and do a search for "closet shel."  You'll get a ton of posts with photos.

Go to walmart and look at stakable bins.  Build a riser out of cardboard and duct tape.   I have 5 in there.

Casita uses a 1/2 inch plywood floor under the finish materials, you can screw into that to anchor things.

On another casita i had i used 3/4" pvc pipe and "T" fittings to make the framework and then slipped on 1/4" plywood to finish it off....... I didn't glue the fittings and no drilling was required.....

I did the same thing as Joe in 2009 with my Scamp: 1" Schedule 1 PVC and 1/2" plywood. Here's a link to the original post.

And then last summer, I was tired of not being able to use all the space in the closet, so Dad and I cut a hole in the fiberglass (and made a new door)--and now the closet area is beyond perfect. Here's a link to that project.

Good luck!

That's a really good idea with the lower door.... my other trailers had the air conditioner there but my new one doesn't and it would be much easier to get at things with that door..

Just a few mods and things I did with my closet which may give you some ideas for your project:

Added a plywood floor in the closet, mounted even with the level of the bottom of the original door.

Added a new access cut-out and hinged door for the bottom below the new closet floor, The door was made from the original cover for the galley sink they provided from the factory. (They called it a cutting board, but I would never use it to prep anything I would eat on it.)

Moved the bottom electrical outlet over to the left side, (had to relocate it for making the new bottom door cut-out.)

Added another outlet at the top of the closet while I was at it, which my wife likes a lot. Handy for her "hair tools" right next to the big door mirror and keeps the cords from being plugged in elsewhere creating a tripping hazard.

Made and mounted a heavy-duty sewn up pocketed holder for small odds and ends which hangs inside the door.

Added a couple of coat hooks to the outside of the door.

Installed shelving in the upper closet, which has an LED light strip inside (not shown) along the hinge side, which comes on when the closet door is opened. You can sort of make out a little bit of the light strip reflecting off some of the white baskets emanating from the LED's in one of the pictures. Handy for when it's dark out.

Hello Casita World,

Fall seems to just be getting here in metro Atlanta area, it was chilly getting the paper this morning. Really enjoy these forums, get so many great ideas. All of our trips are not very long 3-5 nights but know when it comes the time we get to spend weeks at at time in our Matilda I will be using MANY of the things I've learned from this forum.

Safe travels to all and enjoy the beauty that Mother Nature brings us this time of year.

Stratos 175...they are fun to read, aren't they? Sometimes the personal banter is hard to follow but that gives the forum character. Happy Trails...
