Finally did it!! Been wanting a Casita Spirit Deluxe for about 10 years now. Sue has been “on the fence” for the last year or so. Took our old pop-up to Ft. Pickens the Saturday before Thanksgiving for a couple of days. The first thing we saw was – wait for it – a Spirit Deluxe parked just across from our site. While walking the dog, Sue stopped and spoke to the (new) owners. They said they loved it – no surprise there. As night fell, the wind started picking up. By midnight we were experiencing steady winds of +20 mph. with gusts around 30 – 35. Inside the pop-up it was like trying to sleep inside of an accordion – lots of unexplained noises. Although I’m sure we were never in any real danger, Sue nearly had a nervous breakdown! The first thing we did upon returning home was to call Jean at Casita and place our order. It won’t be ready until late February though. Hope to see you out there sometime in early March!

That's great. Where are you in LA? We are in Monroe. We purchased our 2005 Casita SD in Kentucky on Oct. 8 and are really excited about it.

Similar experience in our pop-up in April at Galveston Island State Park. Winds reported 30 sustained and gusts above 40 with heavy rain. I was trying to remember formulas for metal fatigue as it rocked back and forth. Not much sleep that night. We have enjoyed the pop-up, but decided it was time step up to a camper that would allow us the comfort to weather the weather. We get our 17' SD December 18. Anxious to camp.

Tom, we have a Spirit Deluxe in Slidell. You will love it. So much quicker to set up than a pop up, and never any wet canvas to deal with. No raising and lowering to pack, either. Congratulations, and welcome to the family!

Right now we're in Northern CA since 11/25 and it's been beautiful weather. Initial stay was 5 days and decided to extend it 2 more days. Yesterday was nice, but today it cooled down into the low 40's and got windy. With the awning out and my flag flapping in the breeze, it was time pull in the awning and roll up the flag. Once that was done, my FD was aerodynamic and solid in the elements.

We picked up our 2014 SD on Nov. 18th and really love it. While you are waiting for yours, you might consider doing what we did, order Arizona Eileen's CD Rom A-Z Casita Owners Guide. You'll be glad you did! We played it over and over and learned a bunch about our Casita. . .and, it really helped pass the time until The Day. B) :D :P

Thanks for all the feed-back. The CD idea sounds great. As for camping weather conditions, to borrow the old fishing adage, "a bad day camping is better than a good day at work."

The CD is great. We have it on our iPad and also printed it out and bound to keep in the Casita. It is THAT helpful.

There is a better park close in to Ruston, in fact, one of the nicest anywhere in the country if you can believe that. It's sort of a local well-kept secret. I'm really not at liberty to disclose the name of it, details later.

Hi Tom --

Your CD went into yesterday's mail. Good timing...I just finished the 2014 version.

You're going to LOVE camping in a Casita!

Arizona Eileen - thanks for the update - but go to bed already! Seriously though, thanks. When I was a kid - admitted not the smartest kid - I used to like to play in discarded large appliance boxes. One time I set the box up in a driving rainstorm. It was awesome - for about 3 minutes. I guess my new Casita represents my quest for the ultimate "better box". I'm sure my luck will be better this time!!
