I am getting ready to purchase a 17ft SD can anyone tell me why I would need a high lift axle? I am towing with a 2005 dodge dakota quad cab. Thanks

It affords you a little extra ground clearance. Casitas have many things underneath which can be easily snagged, dented, or ripped loose if you bottom out or high center your trailer. Every inch of extra clearance you can get is a good thing. Worth the "upgrade". I would also suggest strongly to get the 15" tires. I think they may be standard now, but back when I bought my trailer the stock wheels were only 14".
An additional benefit, and one you will soon come to fully appreciate, is that it also puts the waste tank swivel dump valve higher up. The standard axle trailers have long reported "issues" with having "you know what" not running downhill very well when you dump your holding tanks.
