Bill, Thank you ever so much! We actually have the 12 foot unit, so the challenge is not quite so great.  Believe we can get by with 5000 BTU unit.  Have you heard of any wall unit A/C that has been proven to work with the Honda EU2000 effectively??  And did it have the HSC mod attached ???  Best of luck to you!  Ron

One of the people on this string I believe indicated they have a 8K unit that works with the Honda 2000.  I do not know if he had to make any modifications.  Hopefully he will respond and provide us a detailed description of his configuration.

Bill..... sorry to hear it didn't work but we have all been in that situation some time or another. Very frustrating but if you learned something from it all is not Lost.

Thanks. How did you know which of the 3 sizes to buy ??  Specs defined in horsepower vice btu or kw or amps.  Ron

I assumed that I needed the smallest hp unit I could buy since the air conditioner was relative small in btu's and amp requirements.  I think the range was 1/2 to 3 hp.  I know the compressor motor was not 3 hp and I could not find anything smaller than 1/2 hp.  At this point I might call it an educated guess. Tuition was paid!

Hey, Everyone!  Still haven't solved this challenge with the Honda 2000 Gen not handling the startup power requirements of the air conditioner we have installed (original - 1991).  An air conditioner tech suggested we get a new energy efficient a/c unit.    We've looked around at some 6K BTU units that require 5.4 amps for normal ops.  Also read the startup (surge) requirement is usually computed at about 3 times that.    (About 16.5 amps).   Anyone have a good unit to recommend that we can have installed before hot weather starts???  Welcome any advice.  Ron

shen2000.  I replaced the front mounted Air Conditioner (AC) unit in my 96 17’ with a roof top. I just looked and my old front unit is a Fedders Model A1Q05F2C-A, 5000 BTU 5.9 amps, 625 watts EER rating 8.0.  My Honda EU-2000 with the entire trailer plugged in would only handle the surge of the compressor cycling with the ECO mode OFF. As far as I know the converter is going to draw X number of amps to charge maintain the charge on the battery and that current draw was too much for the Honda to handle on eco mode.

I did not like this so I started experimenting. I had a short 12 gauge extension cord, plugged the AC into the extension cord and the extension cord to the Honda EU 2000.  Started the Honda set the Honda on ECO mode turned on the AC, the Honda revved up, took the surge and then idled back down to  eco mode or maybe a little higher but not at full throttle. I let the AC run for a while and confirmed that each time the AC compressor kicked on the Honda would rev up take the surge and then idle back down. So all I did was to run the AC cord and an appropriate length of the 12 gauge out the door where the main umbilical power cord came out and ran the AC only off the Honda EU 2000.

FWIW, I replaced the front AC with a roof top AC because the front AC would not cool the 17’ in the Gulf Coast heat and humidity.  We use the exact same set-up for the roof top air. The only time the roof top AC in cool mode is connected to the circuitry on the trailer is when we are plugged into shore power.  If we want the roof top AC and compressor to run off the Honda EU 2000 I just unplug the AC from the circuitry on the trailer, plug the AC into the same extension cord and fire up the Honda.  Works great.

Bubba,  Thank you!  This is very helpful!!   We'll definitely try this.  We've also decided to have our RV garage install a hard start kit in addition.  Hopefully, between the two, we'll be able to run our A/C this Summer using our Honda EU2000. Again, we very much appreciate your ideas.   Ron

I recently picked up a slightly used 2012 ParkLiner which has a 5000 btu Frigidaire ac Power and Performance: Cooling Amperage: 4.8 Cooling BTU: 5000 Cooling Wattage: 515 Cord Length (ft.): 6 Energy Efficiency Rating: 9.7 Kilowatt Hrs. per Year: 12877 Maximum Air Flow (CFM): 120 Rated Amps (Receptacle): 15 Room Coverage in Sq. Ft.: 150 Total Connected Load: N/A Voltage: 110/120V

Im debateing between the Yamaha 2000i and the 2400i.  After reading some of the issues Im wondering if the extra $350 for the 2400i might just make more sense.  Heavier (Im in my early 40's so the weight isn't an issue) uses more fuel... but would be running at 25% load most of the time... thought about the trifuel conversion and run it from my propane tank.

Any Thoughts?

Deryk, Wish we were more technically oriented to give reliable advice.  We just turned Casita over to RV Techie to install the hard start adaptor.  Get it back next week.  Hoping it works.  We'd tend to believe your conclusion is correct though.  It definitely will be more likely to support your unit ... and for a reasonable cost.  Best of Luck, Ron
