I am hoping to get some feed back on how well Bicyle racks travel on the back of Casita"s?  I've heard horror stories of RV's having welds breaking and bouncing bikes?  Thank you Mike

We have been doing it for 3 years on the back of a 2003 SD 17'. We had a receiver hitch hitch added that is welded to a cross bar that was in turn welded to the frame, NOT the cheesy bumper. We had our first blow-out last week with it attached. It was a tread separation, so we are NOT thinking it is due to the extra weight. Some have indicated it is important to balance the bikes (or other weight on the back) with the tongue weight of the Casita. We do pull with a F350 diesel because we live on a ranch.

There are probably several factors to consider. But from a vibration standpoint of either the camper or the bikes, that has not been an issue with us.

I saw that on a class A one time on I-10 draging them down the road.

The big trick here is to verify that the bicycle rack itself is rated to be on a trailer. Most are not. I am not an engineer but the load on the bicycle rack itself is much greater on a trailer than on the rear of a vehicle. Think about riding in the back seat of a schoolbus over a bump. I once saw a rack that failed and that got me looking into this.

The bike rack I mentioned above is the Swagman XCS 2 RV rack. We got it at Camping World , apparently it is designed for the back of an RV. It has served us well for 3.5 years.

We have the same one as Clover and have had it on the front of our F-150 (in full view) and their is absolutely no vibration at all.  This is the best bikerack I have ever used in over 30 years of RVing.

We have the same set up an this and the one that labcdef (Randy & Martha) have and is a great way to carry the bikes.
