I love Casitas and I love to get together with adventure goers. So, before I pull the trigger on this and make reservations, I would like to gauge the interest in a Casita rally in Idyllwild CA. Idyllwild is nestled in the San Jacinto mountains. Set among tall pines, sweet smelling cedars and Legendary rocks. The town has kept its "small town" atmosphere. Locally owned shops and restaurants are all you will find here. I live here with my wife and dogs and would love to be your host, with guided hikes, mountain biking, four wheeling, climbing "if your up to it" and just plain ole relaxing in the pines. Please respond with a .... Yeah I would come.. I am thinking the last weekend in May 2012. We hope to have our new SD 17 by then and it would be a great shake down for us in the local parks.

Ok, it seems May might be a little early. How does mid June sound??

I am interested at a later time. I live not far from there and may be on a longer jaunt that time of year, but I love Idyllwild and would be up for some other time.

Oh how I would love to say I can come, but cannot make any plans right now due to some personal experiences. I grew up there in the 50's, spending all summer long there. Our property was up on Glenn Road in Fern Valley. It is a really neat place, lots of shops, hiking, riding, just relaxing in a neat atmosphere.

Where are you planning on having the rally? Is that Lily Rock in the first picture? Beautiful picture.

Idyllwild, California has been on my short list of places to visit since I saw the ELVIS movie Kid Galahad a couple of years ago. WOW what a beautiful location. The movie is almost like Blue Hawaii in the mountains. I won't be there because I don't have a Casita yet and I'm not traveling. But anyone who wants to visit "old California" in the mountains should make the trip. If you can't make it, then get the Elvis movie "Kid Galahad" and enjoy the view! I may have to watch it again just because of this post.

FYI, I found THIS CLIP of some of the films made there. What a beautiful place it is.

Les --

I think this sounds like a FABULOUS idea. Love that area and wouldn't mind spending some time around Palm Springs on my way there or back.

Reading RVParkReviews.com, a reviewer says that Monday through Thursday would be the best days since it gets crowded at Mount San Jacinto State Park on weekends.

Temps look pretty nice too.

Also, the campsites are reservable in advance on ReserveAmerica.com

We will be in that area around mid-June. If it firms up, post the dates when you get them.

Les --

I'll be seeing a lot of folks at the Quartzsite Gathering in early February, so let me see if I can get some folks interested in Idyllwild. I'll get back to you one way or another.

Emily
your right, that is Lilly rock, I was planning on having the Rally at the county or state park, both are close to town and close to all the activities I would plan.

Alice & I would be interested if it happens in mid-June timeframe. June was one of the few remaining months that we had nothing planned so far. We've not been there and the area looks beautiful.

LGSedona and Sister932 are also interested.

I'm wide open in June, so any dates will work for me too. By then, I'll be dying to get out of the AZ heat.

Drove through that area in the summer of 2007 on my way back from L.A. Took the long route from Lake Elsinore up through the mountains then down to Palm Springs. Quite the climb and desent, but I sure loved what I saw up top. Believe there were some horse ranches.

The ReserveAmerica website is saying that there are 13 RV sites in Mount San Jacinto SP. When I plugged in some weekend dates for June and specified TRAILER, it told me there was nothing available for those dates. When I changed it to ANY CAMPSITE, lots of RV campsites were available.

In looking at the map of the Idyllwild Park campground, there are 11 RVs sites (shown as boxes), and they're all at the very end of the road into the park. Everything else is tents. Not that that matters, but that limits the number of people who'd be able to attend. Also, the reviews talk about how narrow the road is in the park. Can't be any worse than Natural Bridge Nat'l Monument were I got 'Utah pinstriping' across my Casita from the overhanging branches.

Les, is the aerial tram restaurant accessible from up there?

The tram is 40 min away around the other side of the mountain by car. You can, if your up to it, take the tram up and hike to Idyllwild. 8 miles though open wilderness
I will be posting images of the two parks to stay at. The State park is small, but nice, not sure of how many RV sites. The county park is far bigger and the rv area is toward the end of the park, I will get exact numbers soon.

I need to actually start a Idyllwild thread announcing the get together. will do that Tuesday of next week!
