Talk about memories, Rob's good looking Philco can't produce THIS political advice.

That's just one of many memories that can be found HERE

Oh, and there was Fibber McGee and Molly, Captain Midnight, Let's Pretend, Sky King and a millon others!

There is a web site where you can order episodes of these old programs that were so much a part of our childhood... and very inexpensive! Also, they have FREE downloads evey day.

When I was a young lad my parents had a humungous Atwater Kent radio in the living room. The last time I saw it my brother had it. Most of the tubes had a connection on the top where a wire was connected. My brother put it in the garage when the speaker went bad as he could not find a replacement for it. It appears that the coil in the speaker was part of the power supply.

I had a crystal radio that in order to tune it you had to move the cat whisker to different parts of the crystal. I used to hide under the covers at night and listen to distant stations. I did get into some serious trouble when I was caught on the roof putting up an antenna. I think I was about 9 or 10 at the time.

Wow! The things that you forget until somebody reminds you. I liked Inner Sanctum the best with the creaking door.

That is a beautiful radio. I have the exact radio. It belonged to my grandmother and we used to listen to it everyday.
The presets on the front had such stations as WFAA, KRLD, WBAP so on.
I was always amazed at the enormous speaker in the bottom of the cabinet.
I also have another old wooden radio. It is an RCA.
I have always been a fan of radios.
Do you mind me asking about the man that restored the electronics for you.
I might be interested in getting my looked over and restored. The last time
I plugged it in, it did work. I have a couple of old plastic tube type radios also.
Thanks for the photos and I hope you enjoy that radio.
I can remember listening to WLS and KLIF and KRLD when my grandmother lived in Dallas.
We used to listen to the BBC on the shortwave band and the Bureau of Time when they would say,
At the tone, the time will be, so and so hundred hours and minutes...
Memories are good.
Happy Camping
Ron B.
PS, just thought about something else. We used to listen to Uncle AL read the funny papers... The Lone Ranger (Rides Again) !!! Remember those???

Hey, Ron...

Great to hear from you! It's quite a coincidence that you and I not only have the "same" old Philco, but also that we both listen (or, in my case, listened!) to these great old radios in beautiful Tyler, Texas! I lived in Tyler from 1945 through 1950... back then the grass was greener, the sky bluer, and the world was a wonderous, and wholly uncomplicated place... how I loved my childhood in Tyler (we lived in a great house: 1315 College Street)!

My Philco was restored by Randal at Texas Vintage Audio in San Angelo, Texas. Here's a link to some of my photos and comments on his weeb site: http://www.texasvint...ntcomments.html Of course, you can dig around there on his web site and learn more about what he does... I recommend him highly!

I'll never know what eventually happened to our old family radio... I know that it made the move with our family from Dallas to Fort Worth in 1955, but after that, who knows?

Please keep in touch!

All the best,

Rob
