What about a canvas type cover for the short term. I see them on ebay for less than $200. We just got a Casita and live in West Texas too. I was thinking about the cover to try and keep some of the red dust out of it.
We bought an Ebay cheapie & it is just that - cheap. In less than a year it is just falling apart. Don't waste your money. We are now going to save up for the Calmark Sunbrella cover. Some recomend Tyvek?

Check out these fittings. There are many sources for them, this is just one. You use them with one inch or other sizes conduit and make your own custom shelters. After you make your frame, you attach a tarp and tie straps to them as needed. I suppose you could make a wood or metal roof if you can scrounge or buy them. A shelter for your egg could be made for around $100. The feet are secured to the ground by foot long and longer lag screws which can be ordered online. The lag screws are driven into the ground with an impact wrench. I learned of them from the Burning Man website. I made a shelter in my yard for storing things like a barbecue grill and lawnmower out of the sun and rain. I call it my tentshed.
