We had a terrific time at Joshua Tree. Got there a bit late in the day, so the Chili Fest ended up being closer to 5 pm. Had a great turnout on our first evening - 13 Casitas/16 participants. Four more eggs rolled in on Monday, and one or two who were already there. I believe there ended up to be close to 20 Casitas in all.

Jumbo Rocks campground is spectacular and so is the hiking in the area. With the exception of the cold and wind, it was sunny and beautiful every day.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this gathering a success, especially to WtMtJim and CalCop and Ernie O'Toole for putting up and taking down the "First Up" gazebo with the wind curtain that was our salvation on those cold, breezy evenings, and to DirtDawg, CAGal and Ernie for all of the wonderful uptown "mods' they did on my trailer!

I'll post pictures soon.

Ditto what they said Eileen. I know a lot of time, thought and effort goes into organizing an event of any kind. Thank you for making this come together so smoothly. It was a great group to travel with.

Those photos are great, Steve! Glad you were able to get some 'aerial' views of the campground and of Party Central (my campsite).

Got to admit -- I downloaded a few of them.

Thanks once more!

Close! We were in site #87. However it looks like we both stood on top of the same rock to shoot our pics.

How about if we all plan to just meet up at only at JOSHUA TREE this time around?
Let's plan to do Death Valley later.

This alternate plan seems more practical, although I'm not sure what one does in J-T for 4 nights other than hiking or bicycling. Cutting D-V out entirely and approaching J-T the back way from Apple Valley reduces my round trip prox 300 miles. Maybe I'll visit D-V in January instead with moto buds for the annual "Death Valley Daze" ride based in lovely downtown Beatty NV.

I have done the Daze, and ridden Death Valley too. Have a Casita now, but no where to haul a motorcycle (yet). I thought the Park Service chased out the Daze over an insurance requirement. ???

I just wanted to thank you all for the helpful campground tips. We just did a roundtrip from Oregon to Arizona and it was so nice to have first-hand information on good places to camp. We really enjoyed Jumbo Rocks and were so glad we had enough time to hike there.
