Help, please! I have had a few people express interest in changing our rally location for this year (Sept. 24-27, 2009) to a different location. A couple of people feel it would be nicer to be in a location that would provide more of an atmosphere to have more camaraderie so we have a better chance of getting to know each other.

I am open for suggestions as to locations. If we could possibly find a location somewhere near central Ohio with a minimum of electricity (and water available to at least fill our tanks), with shower houses and flush toilets available, it would be great. Many of our group are retired, so may not be able to afford expensive places. Alum Creek is pretty, BUT when we went around checking out campgrounds last year, found that each lot is so secluded with trees, etc., it makes it hard to have camaraderie, which is the point of getting together.
I would also like to have a nice restaurant not too far away where we can have our Sat. evening gobble 'til we wobble meal!

Please let me know your thought asap!

Sandy Webb

Hi Sandy! Glad to hear the 2009 gathering is already in the works (missed you all this year!). A nice place we've used for our LoW camping groups (Loners on Wheels) is the campground at the Plain City Fairgrounds. There's water and 30 amp electric, sites are pretty level, there's a shelter house and really nice, big trees. The price we have quoted for our Oct. gathering, next year, is $18 with senior discount. Arrangements are made through the Plain City Water Dept (Kelly, at 614-873-5721). It is important to make reservations (didn't have to give them a deposit, just a number and contact) because they do have some really big groups come in. There is a bath house with showers...pretty bare bones, but adequate. There's both a Dutch Kitchen and Der Dutchman (just like in Waynesville, just a little smaller) or Dublin is just a few miles down the road. OH, and pets are allowed. ...might be worth a drive over to take a look at it. There's no camping, this time of year, but the park is open to drive through. an idea... Good luck with the organization and sure hope I can make is this year. Karen Langley

Hey sandy I saw this on another rally site looked like a cool idea just a thougth I hope you dont mind I share this

WHERE: Hickory Lake Campground
23 TWP Road 1300
West Salem, Ohio 44297
Phone: (419) 869-7587
Fax: (419) 869-5007
Website: Hickory Lakes
WHAT: “Shawshank Redemption” & Carousel Weekend

Check out the most famous prison in the United States: Mansfield Reformatory
Be incarcerated with your friends and family at the Mansfield Reformatory. Visit the movie location of the academy award nominated “Shawshank Redemption”. Walk the cell blocks where Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman) and Brooks Hatlen (James Whitmore) shared life behind bars, until Andy’s escape to freedom. The prison is also the set location of many other Hollywood movies.

Look down the world's tallest free-standing steel cell block (6 tiers; 12 ranges, 600 cells) make a trip to “The Hole”, it is rumored that ghostly spirits have been seen there from time to time.

Somewhere close to Columbus would be Great... Late September is a beautiful time in OHIO. The leaves are all changing colors and the weather is still somewhat warm.

We have family in OHIO and could also go to a BUCKEYE game. The Jackson County Apple Festival is also happening September 16-20.

Sandy,

We like Caesar's Creek fine, but if everybody wants something else we'll be there too.

Has anyone stayed at Salt Fork State Park. Lots of facilities, Lake, Dining Hall, Area Attractions. Check out the Ohio State Park Web Site. Wolf Run State Park also sounds nice.

We were at Salt Fork lodge for dinner on Sunday. We love that area, it is so pretty. We checked the milage into Cambridge just to get an idea of how far it is. It was right around 12 miles from the camping area. I picked up some brochures from the area. Sandy if you would like to see them, I can send them.

There is the huge lake, an indoor and outdoor pool, golf course, game room, beautiful lodge with restaurant, (though pricey), hiking trails, etc.

Wolf Run is particularly pretty and quiet, but I am not sure all of the sights have electric and the even though there are showers, I think they had pit toilets the last time we were there. They may have upgraded since then. Terry R

Hey all....let us know what the final plans are and we will try to be there. Travel plans for first 1/2 of September, but rest looks OK. Dennis & Judy from Illinois.

Karen, lots has changed since our cruise...my brother passed away last September and I decided that I just had to loose some weight. So far 70#'s have gone away and another 20#'s are scheduled to go away. Also, have you seen the bargins that cruise lines are desperate to give??!! If we only had a few dollars to take advantage.

So far, all but 1 member from the past rallies has expressed any interest in changing locations. I truly do not care & would love to go check out the ones suggested asap. So far, it looks like we might be keeping it at Caesar Creek, but I want to do whatever the majority wants. I am already having dreams of our breakfast!!
