It all started back in May of the year 2000. A few Casita Travel Trailer owners decided to find a place in cyber-space to meet and share ideas. The idea for The Casita Club was "hatched" and created in order to do just that, allow Casita owners, perspective owners and any other interested parties to have a site to share their ideas, meet other owners and become part of something.
In November of 2002, one of our original members decided to take the idea of comraderie one step further and introduced his idea of The Casita Club Directory:
"The best thing about the Casita Club is the total lack of commitment -no dues, no contentious elections of officers, no bake sales, no meetings except to party. It has occured to me though, that this is a bunch of fun folks with very common interests and sense of humor. It would be fun, and easier to meet each other once in a while if we had a directory. A list of owners and addresses along with personal interests, nearby camps, etc. would be nice to have, either in print or on-line. A directory would be a place to let folks know which of us would be happy to put out an extension cord and a garden hose to those passing through our town, and it is always reassuring when you are on the road to have someone to call that can give you candid recommendations for local services.
If there is any interest I will be happy to put it together. I will also be happy to let someone else do it that knows how and can cross link to the bootable scrosslicks and dooginin quarks. My only qualification is membership in the Too-much-time-on-his-hands Society of Retired Coots Club. But I can make a list, print it and mail it out, or post it on the Web."
So it began, The Official Casita Club Directory. It is still going strong today with close to 400 participants in almost every state in the nation, as well as a few members in Japan!
The Directory has stuck with the same information that Roland required when it started:
"The Directory "Document" will be an electronic document, in my personal files, and I will e-mail a copy to anyone who requests it IF they are listed in the Directory. I assume unlisted folks don't want to be pestered. I will e-mail the list to participants as an attachment. You have my word of honor as a former government worker and a serious person who does not joke around that the list will never be sold if the sale can in anyway be traced. The penalty for selling the list is the official club punishment - having your house and trailer egged by all passing Casita Owners. None of the information is manditory, so don't give your phone number if you don't want anyone to call you.
Information listed will be: 1. Names(s), city/state, e-mail address, home and cellular phone no. 2. Type of Casita 3. The word HOST will appear if the listors will put you up for the night with a power cord and garden hose. 4. A four digit number, which some may wish to put on the back of their rigs. The number 1001 will be assigned by going to the last page of the Casita Club Forum and recognizing the earliest posting. Then the next number will be assigned by working forward in time to the last posting. This will make up the first set of numbers to be assigned before the first directory is issued. After that, numbers will be assigned in order, as the request to be on the list is received. If you know where you stand now, let me know.
This directory is a "by request only" document. Sales people (who own a Casita) will be listed if they want to be included, and they can recommend their place of business as a local service, just like everyone else. They will not be given a special invitation or more weight than any other owner."
There was one change in March of 2003:
"In order to accomodate those that would like to "belong" to the group but are still a little skittish about giving out their name and addresses, the Directory is now open to listings from persons that do not want their data published. These names will be assigned a club number and listed on the roster posted forum. These names will not be in the e-mail data base and will NOT receive a copy of the Directory."
Beginning August of 2003, Roland turned over the Directory to me (I'm Eric A. Mayer, btw). The Official Casita Club Directory keeps to the exacting standards set by Roland and still has the promise that the information contained within will never be sold by me or CasitaClub.com. The numbers have been used by folks on their tire covers, painted on their trailers and will soon be available to be included on other merchandise.
So, if you would like to join The Official Casita Club Directory, please fill out the following form and include the information requested (when you are finished, just click the "Back" button to return to this page). It is released 4 times a year with random updates as information is corrected. Join, it doesn't hurt a bit, I promise!!
